Shabby Chic Upcycle Of A Garage Sale Washboard
February 25, 2020
I paid $1 for this small, old washboard at a garage sale last fall.
I think it had been used with Rit dye as there were several red stains on the wood, and the metal was pretty rusty.

I washed the washboard down with hot soapy, Dawn Dish Soap water and some spray Krud Kutter too.
I then brushed on a couple coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in French Linen. I was a big fan of Annie Sloan's French Linen Paint.
I am happy that Dixie Belle now has a similar shade, as I prefer both the price and the application of Dixie Belle over Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

French Linen is a taupy gray.
I found this little galvanized/red rectangular planter at a Hobby Lobby shop last summer. (I purchased it at 50% off for $2.99.) It will work out well with my washboard project.
I painted the metal container with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Vintage Duck Egg. I left the bottom and inside plain.
The rectangular container was screwed onto the bottom frame of the washboard with two short screws.
I used another one of the Redesign By Prima Transfers - Classic Vintage Labels on my project. (I will get lots of projects from these transfer sheets).
This label fit the washboard very well.
I also added a small floral combo cut from this Prima Marketing Fuchsia Sunset Transfer to the metal container.
I sprayed the washboard project with Dixie Belle Easy Peasy Spray Wax. Easy Peasy Spray Wax is perfect for a small project like this.
A magnet stuck to this washboard, so I attached an old photo of my grandma's aunt to it. (some of my washboards do not work with magnets)
The books in my photo were upcycled with shabby chic style in a project HERE.
AND, the pedestal bucket vase project tutorial can be found HERE.
I love these Dixie Belle paint colors!
