A Basket Weave Shelf Upcycle
April 20, 2020
This shelf used to hang on the wall at my mom's apartment, before she moved to assisted living.
It is not an antique. It has a tag that says Made in China on the back.

I then took a scrap of old tee shirt, dampened it, and "wet distressed" the shelf.
Wet distressing is pretty easy, I just rubbed the damp rag over the edges and basket weave in spots. If I over distress, I touch up the area with more paint.
Wet distressing is less messy for sure, and gives a more authentic worn look than sandpaper distressing.
*Redesign With Prima has provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous transfer products are my own.
I chose a smaller, floral, decor transfer from the bottom of this sheet and cut it off with a scissors.
This stick rubs on the decor transfers.
I wasn't sure how the transfer would work with the basket weave surface, but it worked well.
I waxed the paint and decor transfer with Dixie Belle Big Mama's Butta and a waxing brush and fiber paper rag.
I am displaying a few of my old gold tone clocks with the shelf, and books.
I think with a brighter blue like Dixie Belle Bunker Hill Blue, the shelf would look awesome surrounded with blue and white plates on the wall!
Thanks for visiting! Be safe!

ReplyDeleteIt turned out beautiful! The transfer is gorgeous. I have always been hesitant to add transfers to wicker, but now I am going to give it a shot! :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow! This looks so good! The transfer turned out really well on the wicker.
