A Thrifted, Farmhouse Style, Chalkboard/Shelf Makeover With Paint & Stencils
February 07, 2021
This is a recent find at my local thrift shop.
It's a Home Interiors chalkboard/peg hooks/shelf piece.

I removed the chalkboard piece first.
I washed the pieces down with hot soapy Dawn Dish Soap water. The chalkboard had really been used as a chalkboard, and there was a lot of build up of chalk under the frame.
Next, I brushed a couple of coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Caviar on both pieces.
I then pulled out a fun, farmhouse style, Pantry stencil from Old Sign Stencils.
I have used this stencil several times before, and sometimes just used the Bake - Cook - Create section. It's versatile.
All pricing and shipping amounts on the website are stated in Canadian funds, and will be converted to US funds.
*Old Sign Stencils has provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.
I then centered and taped the Pantry stencil down on the chalkboard board with blue painter's tape.
I swirled the word Pantry onto the board using Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Putty.
Then I decided to try a new technique to me, shadowing. The shadowing adds some depth to the letters.
To add the shadowing, I placed the stencil over the dry putty stencil, moving it a little to the right and up a bit. I then stenciled the word pantry again with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth. I also stenciled the small font lettering below Pantry.
After putting my sign shelf back together, I sealed it with Dixie Belle Easy Peasy Spray Wax.
I did not distress the piece.
It's a perfect piece for a farmhouse kitchen!
And a great piece to display
vintage farmhouse kitchen wares.
Thanks for visiting.

ReplyDeleteI've featured this in this weekend's DIY Salvaged Junk Projects! Thanks for linking up!
Talk about a drab to fab upcycle! I love what you did with the chalkboard and I'd have this hanging in my kitchen in a heart beat.
