Dollar General Framed Cow Art Receives A Makeover

March 17, 2021
I purchased two of these framed farm art pieces at Dollar General for $1 a piece. Under close inspection they are made quite cheaply with pressed board frames and cow shape.

I knew I could give them a handcrafted look with little effort.

This is the back.  The hanging wire and cow are stapled onto the frame and chicken wire.

I removed the hanging wire and the cow.

Next, I painted the frames and the chicken wire with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth.

Now I have a blank canvas for my new design.

I pulled out the two remaining rosemary sprigs from a Target Dollar Spot find from a couple years ago.

This is a snippet of greenery from one of my faux potted herbs.

So far, my idea was working.

I had this DecoArt Patio Paint Self-Adhesive Stencils, Spice of Life page on hand from previous projects.

I taped the rosemary stencil on the bottom of one of the frames and pounced on the letters using Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in CaviarI waxed the frames with Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear.

Instead of adding the hanging wires back on the frames, I opted for jute hangers.

A small hole was drilled into the frames' top corners for the jute to thread through.

Here is the chive's frame.

This farmhouse wall art is more my style!

  1. Cute! I liked the cow also, but not behind chicken wire. I do like the painted frames better.
