Wooden Dollar General Easter Egg & Bunny Shape Makeovers
March 23, 2021
I found a plain wooden bunny and egg wooden plaque at Dollar General. Dollar General's cutouts were $2 each and a little thicker than Dollar Tree's.
In the photo above small pieces of a 1" x 2" were glued to the back of the plaques with Titebond Wood Glue.

Here are the Dollar General cutouts.
Next, I applied one coat of Aged Wood Accelerator to the plaques.
I brushed on a coat of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop Cloth, but not all the way to the edge.
I brushed on a thin second coat as well.
Next I pulled out one of the pattern stencils from an Artminds Patterned Stencil Package.
I like this stencil pack, but the stencils are paper and fragile, and worst of all, need to be pressed or punched out.
I stenciled the pattern with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Bunker Hill Blue.
A 1/8"x 48" rolled steel rod was cut into two 12" lengths.
A hole just a bit smaller than the rod was drilled in the bottom of the 1" x 2", and the rod was shoved inside. The tight fit keeps the rod inside.
I then made a jute pom pom, winding jute around three of my fingers.
Here is a tutorial from Instructables Craft with the process.
I hot glued the jute pom pom onto the bunny.
I didn't seal the projects as I will be using them inside as houseplant stakes, but you can use a clear spray sealer to protect them for outside use.
I like the blue and white combination, edged in brown stain.
Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you were inspired!

DeleteLove these! Thanks for the tutorial!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sandi!
DeleteLove these and I can use a color that goes with my decor instead of blue. The pompon pulls in the brown wax too. Really cute!
