A Vintage Nevco Folding Stool Is Transformed With Chalk Paint & A French Design Transfer

I found this little stool at the thrift shop.  It was already painted green.

It needed a makeover!

I recognized the folding stool as one that my Grandma used to own.  I know hers was shaped just the same with rounded leg indentations on one side.  Hers had a natural stain finish.

The bottom of the green one said it was a Nevco stool, made in Yugoslavia.

Here I am sitting on Grandma's stool back in the 1960's!

I sanded off a few paint drips on the stool, and then wiped it off with hot soapy Dawn Dish Soap water.

I then brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Caviar.

I decided not to distress the paint finish.

I then pulled out a decor transfer that I had on hand.  The transfer is called Somewhere In Paris from Redesign With Prima.  (I received this complimentary transfer from Redesign with Prima, but all my opinions on the transfer are my own.)

I thought this gold script transfer would work on my stool seat.

I cut out portions of the center of the transfer and laid them out on the seat of my stool.

More photos and details on how I apply decor transfers can be found in an earlier post HERE.

The decor transfer went on without a hitch, as I was very careful.

When I waxed the stool, the haloes around the lettering disappeared.

I then brushed Rust-Oleum Metallic Accents Paint in Soft Gold on the edge of the stool.

I applied two coats of the metallic paint.

I love this paint color and the gold transfer.

Photo of staged finished stool
The stool is very decorative, and can be used as an extra seat or to hold a plant.

But, I actually like it hanging on the wall.

It's more fun than a sign, but it's kinda like a sign!

It doesn't take up much space so I will probably keep it!
