Garden Themed Barn Wood Framed Decor Transfer On Chalkboard

April 25, 2021

I found an empty barn wood frame at our local thrift shop.  I paid $5.

I had a few sheets of chalkboard purchased at Home Depot on hand, and a piece was cut to fit the frame.  I don't think Home Depot sells larger sheets of chalkboard any longer, but a thin board could have been painted with chalkboard paint and added to the frame as well.

Now to make it into a great project for my summer covered patio!

This is the back of the chalkboard and frame.

The chalkboard is held in place with glazier's points.

I actually purchased a second Maisie & Willow Delightful Labels Decor Transfer.  I had cut the first one up into bits and pieces for use on smaller projects.

The transfer is one of the few white script ones available, which will work perfectly on the my black chalkboard. It has some garden labels in the design too.

The transfer fit the frame almost to a tee.

I taped the first piece into place, with blue painter's tape, before removing the paper backing.  (Just the top clear sheet is taped.  The back comes off easily.)

When I was satisfied that it was centered, I removed the paper backing.

I started rubbing the transfer script in one corner with the flat rectangular stick enclosed with the transfer.

As you rub, the letters stick to the chalkboard and lift off of the clear top sheet.

The second section ties into the script on the first section and so on.  I now had two done, and one to go.

When finished, I spray waxed the transfer with Dixie Belle Easy Peasy Spray Wax

The little wire basket was found at Hobby Lobby.  It costs $3.49 on sale.

Tiny holes were drilled into the frame so the basket could be wired onto the frame.  The wires are twisted tightly on the back.

I ended up adding a few vertical words from the first transfer that I had on hand.  The right side of the transfer had them, and I liked that side better.  It seemed to balance the sides.

I also added a bulldog clip to the side of the frame with a screw.

AND, two wire vintage hooks were screwed into the bottom ends.

I purchased the hooks on Ebay, several years ago in a one dozen lot.

The framed art piece will hang next to the door on my covered patio for the summer.

I'm super happy with the way it turned out.

I decorated the piece with a ball of jute twine, faux plants in the wire basket, a hand shovel, and herb seed packets.
