Garage Sale Bucket Receives A Decor Transfer Makeover As A Farmhouse Planter
June 25, 2021
These four galvanized metal buckets were an awesome find at a recent garage sale for $1 a piece.

Luckily, I am a red lover, so I am going to use one of the red buckets as is.
I still had two decor transfers left in the the Redesign With Prima, Always Fresh set.
I think this transfer has been retired, and is not readily available.
The rooster transfer was too large for my bucket front so I drew two lines on the clear top sheet of the transfer and cut it down smaller.
Since the bucket front was tapered, it was a little bit difficult to get it to lay down flat, but I managed to get it on pretty straight.
The transfers stick to metal with little forgiveness, so I had to make sure it was in the right place on the first try. I used the flat stick to rub the transfer down tight. After I pulled the clear top sheet off, I rubbed the transfer down more with a paper towel.
I then brought it outside to spray it with Painter's Touch Clear Matte Spray.
I applied four coats of spray. The bucket was in the sun, I didn't notice at first that the transfer had crackled. I actually kind of like it that way!
I added a cheap Menard's basket of white impatiens to bucket and set it on the edge of the covered patio.
I love when transfers can be used on multiple projects! It really keeps the cost down.
I added the Hen & Chicks (Sempervivums) from the garage sale to two enamelware spittoons given to me by a church friend.
I also added farm script from this transfer, Redesign With Prima, Everyday Farmhouse. I have also used this transfer on several different projects.
I sprayed the spittoon transfers with sealer as well, but kept them out of the sun until dry. I didn't get the crackle. The crackle could also have been caused by the uneven surface of the galvanized bucket. Not sure, but I sure love using transfers (or stencils) on old junk!
Thanks for visiting!

Thanks Dodie!
DeleteDo you find that the sealer needs a touch up each summer when you bring your projects back out? Is it tough and long-lasting? Thanks...always appreciate the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteOn my stenciled garden planters the sealer and stencils have held up well and I haven’t had to reseal them every year but I will probably do it next year on the transfers. Thanks!
