Goodwill Pallet Sign Upcycled As A Garden Tools Sign for the Shed
July 14, 2021
This rustic pallet @ sign was one of my April Goodwill Finds.
The raised wooden @ sign was both nailed and glued onto the pallet wood. After it was pried off, I sanded off a bit of the glue residue left on the wood. Then I was good to go with a new sign.

I pulled out my Garden Tools 2021 stencil from Old Sign Stencils. This stencil has become one of my "go to" garden decor stencils for this season!
All prices on the *Old Sign Stencils's website are listed in Canadian currency, but there is a handy conversion link for your convenience.
*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.
I centered the stencil with a ruler, and then taped it onto the pallet sign.
I actually prefer a charcoal colored paint instead of a black paint for signs. It has a more washed out, aged look.
Here, I put a spoonful of Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash onto a paper plate to begin stenciling.
When I stencil I both pounce and swirl the brush onto the paper plate to remove most of the paint.
With a heavy duty stencil, (like the ones from Old Sign Stencils) I like to swirl the paint on the stencil. The lettering has a bit of opaqueness with swirling as opposed to pouncing.
This technique seems to work well for me, and I hardly ever get paint bleed under the stencil.
Here is the sign with the swirled on stencil.
I added two long finishing nails to the bottom of the sign to hang a couple of vintage garden tools from my collection.
I hung the sign on the door of the lean-to shed attached to my garage. (Not to be confuse with my free standing shed shared in other posts)
I love how it turned out, and it was so easy! I cheated and used a thrifted pallet wood sign instead of building one!
I also used the Tools stencil on this window screen sign HERE.
This rustic toolbox was also stenciled with the same stencil HERE.
I hope you were inspired! Thanks for visiting!
