Thrifted 3 Dimensional Galvanized Sign Makeover With Old Sign Stencils
November 02, 2021
This three dimensional galvanized sign from Goodwill was one of my July
finds HERE.
I had an idea for a fun makeover!

After giving the sign a good cleaning, I brushed a coat of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Caviar on only the top of the sign. (Not the sides)
It didn't appear that the previous lettering on the sign was raised enough to be visible through the paint, so I didn't need to sand it down first. I just applied a second coat of paint.
Luckily this new vertical sunflower stencil from Old Sign Stencils fit the metal sign perfectly!
Old Sign Stencils' sunflower farm stencil is also available in a square size HERE.
And good news! The Old Sign Stencils' new (2021) Christmas collection is available HERE. (10% off a $200 order for a limited time only).
These are great quality stencils that all coordinate perfectly with each other for many more design ideas.

*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.
I centered the vertical sunflower farms stencil and taped it on the sign's ends with blue painter's tape.
I pounced on the stencil's lettering using Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk.
I picked up a few small bottles of Waverly Inspirations Chalk Paint at Walmart in Hazelnut and Truffle. I pounced Hazelnut on the crate.
For the leaf and stem stenciling, I chose Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Kudzu.
After stenciling the flower petals with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Colonel Mustard, I taped around the petals before pouncing on Waverly Truffle for the sunflower center. The taping prevents the stencil brush from getting brown on the mustard colored petals.
I lightly distressed the stenciling and edges, and applied Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear to the top of metal sign. I like the flat finish of wax.
If I should decide to use the sign outside over a summer rather than as a indoor sign, I will give the sign a couple coats of Dixie Belle's Gator Hide.
The galvanized, unpainted sides are visible from this angle.
My sign turned out so good!
Here is the new sunflower sign hanging on the front of my daughter's home! It matches the wreath.
Pin for later!
