Thrifted Cutting Board Christmas Gnome Decor
December 21, 2021
This little cutting board was found at Goodwill.
I think it was hand painted with a
Betsey Clark style character, popular with Hallmark back in the day.

At first I thought about painting the cutting board white, and brushed on a coat of Dixie Belle Boss to prevent any stain bleeding through the white paint. The cutting board had been
stained with a dark reddish brown wood stain.
But, I ended up painting the cutting board with Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Caviar (black) so the Boss it wasn't necessary.
After base coating the cutting board with Caviar, I pounced on portions of
the Poinsettia Christmas Sweater Stencil from Old Sign Stencils.

*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.
Paints I used for stenciling include, Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Putty, and Juniper, and Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk.
I found this gnome stencil at Hobby Lobby in November.
I pounced the gnome on the cutting board and over the Poinsettia Sweater pattern stenciling, using more FMP in Raw Silk.
I thought the poinsettias on the stencil were actually a bit too large for the size of the cutting board, and left them off.
Here is the stenciled gnome cutting board!
I lightly distressed the edges of the cutting board using 220 grit sandpaper.
I wiped on Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear with a lint free rag.
Lastly, I added a jute twine hanger in the hole.
This neutral color palette is perfect with this green gnome from Iceland!
Pin for later.
