Target Bullseye Playground Bookend Makeover With Chalk Paint & Transfers
January 10, 2022
This is a little set of heavy ceramic or glass black bookends from the
Target Bullseye Playground.
Everything is $5 or less in the
Bullseye Playground bins.

The little polka dotted bookends have an opening that could be used for
faux plants, pens, or other decorative and/or useful odds and ends. They are cute, but not my style.
The surface of the little bookends was pretty glossy, so I decided to brush
on a couple of coats of Dixie Belle's Slick Stick.
Dixie Belle states that "Slick Stick allows you to paint shiny, slick, or slippery surfaces
with ease! Surfaces like PVC, glass, Formica, laminate, metal, and
more are easily painted and stay painted."
After letting the two coats of Slick Stick dry overnight, as
recommended, I brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle's Drop Cloth Chalk Paint.
Dixie Belle Paint Company provides me with complimentary product samples from time to time. All opinions about this fabulous paint or products are my own.
I did not paint the inside of the bookends.
I then pulled out a sheet of Prima Marketing Versailles Rub on Transfers from Maika's
Daughters.
The 6" x 9" scrolly rub on transfer designs were inexpensive, and perfect
for very small projects.
I cut out this design for one of the bookends, and rubbed it on with the
enclosed stick.
I added a second transfer to the bookend on the left.
I did not seal the bookends yet, as I have decided to use a non-wax, spray
sealer like Painter's Touch Clear Matte Spray. (The spray requires a mild day to apply outdoors.)
I didn't want to rub a wax on the transfer that may smudge. These transfers are a rub on transfer versus Redesign With Prima's heavier decor transfers.
I chose to add faux ferns to my bookend openings.
If I decide to put the bookends on my desk, I may store pens or post its, etc in the openings.
This was an easy upcycle!
I have many more rub on transfer designs left to use on other small projects.
Pin for later.
Thanks for visting!
