Thrifted Wooden Box Boho Makeover
January 12, 2022
I found this unfinished, rectangular, hinged wooden box at
Goodwill recently. I paid $5.99. It was stamped with
Carpenters Union, thecountrycarpenter.org.

I gave the box a good wipe down with hot soapy Dawn Dish Soap water and a
rag.
The box was in pretty great shape except for the interior that had a glue
and glitter mess dried and stuck onto the bottom of the box.
When I painted the interior of the box with Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Latex Paint in Flat Black, the latex paint did not stick to the glue spots.
I then painted the glue spot with Dixie Belle's Slick Stick. I let it dry overnight and then touched up the paint. Slick Stick helps paint stick to slick or glossy surfaces.
I then started painting the outside of the box with one of my newest paints, Dixie Belle's Dried Sage.
I brushed on two coats.
I then pulled out my Greenery House Small Decor Transfer (Redesign with Prima)
purchased at Maika Daughters website.
One of the 6" x 12" design sheets in the package fit the front of my box perfectly.
I then repainted just the front panel of the box with two coats of Dixie Belle's Drop Cloth.
I liked the designs on the white paint better than on the green. I also liked the randomness of the leaves just as they appeared on the sheet.
I rubbed the leaves on with the enclosed rectangular stick. Make sure all of the design has stuck down before removing the top clear sheet.
Here is my finished box after waxing it with Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear.
Dixie Belle Paint Company provided me with complimentary product samples. All opinions about this fabulous stencil or paint are my own.
This is the side view.
I think the upcycled box has a Boho vibe, so I styled it open with a faux Monstera plant, a thrifted brass Armillary sphere, natural wood beads, a plant mister, and round rattan wall decor. (The wall decor is really a placemat LOL!)
I love to upcycle wooden boxes.
I really like the decor transfer and the Dried Sage chalk paint!
Pin for later!
