A Garage Sale Vintage Footstool Receives Another Makeover with Hampton Olive Silk Paint
February 02, 2022
Back in 2017, I upcycled this rough, vintage wooden footstool found at a garage sale. Maybe you remember it.

The old footstool, (that may have been upholstered at one time), was painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and stenciled with a stencil from Hobby Lobby HERE.
A few days ago, I decided to try out some of my new Dixie Belle Paint Colors, (mostly greens). I chose the footstool for another makeover.
Besides trying out a new paint shade in green, I was trying out Dixie Belle's Silk Paint line in Hampton Olive. Silk Paint is a mineral paint with a built in primer and topcoat.
I did not scuff up my piece with sandpaper, but I would have if it had never been painted or had a very glossy finish.
I brushed on two coats of the Hampton Olive. Dixie Belle says Hampton Olive is a showstopping green-brown neutral paint color perfect for a unique color palette! This color pairs well with other neutral furniture pieces such as white, gray, blues and tans. Feel at ease with the color Hampton Olive!
I then took out a new Dixie Belle stencil called Lotus Bloom.
Dixie Belle Paint Company provided me with complimentary product samples. All opinions about this fabulous stencil or paint are my own.
The stencil was too wide for the ends of the footstool, but I was able to tape off just one of the Lotus Blooms with blue painter's tape.
I pounced on the stencil using Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Drop Cloth.
After distressing the footstool with a sanding sponge, I waxed the footstool with Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear.
I don't generally distress my pieces much anymore, but this piece had a really rough finish, and it lent itself well to distressing.
I didn't need to apply a topcoat with Silk Paint but I chose to use clear wax on my footstool.
This piece is a cute decorative piece to display plants, books, or knick knacks.
But I like it best next to the bed to help me get in my high antique bed! The footstool is really heavy duty and sturdy enough to step up on.
I like adding a pops of color to my neutral decor palette. I definitely like the paint color and had no trouble with Silk Paint application!
