Thrifted Standing Paper Towel Holder Makeover
February 23, 2022
I found this plain light wood tone standing paper towel holder at our local thrift shop. I prefer free standing paper towel holders to the wall hangers.
I gave it a modern farmhouse makeover!

I took the paper towel holder apart and gave it a good cleaning with hot soapy Dawn Dish Soap water and a rag to make sure there was no grease on the holder.
Next, I started painting the parts with Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Fluff. Fluff is described as a serene, soft white with a slight gray undertone. Use Fluff for traditional or modern style projects.
I chose a paper pattern stencil from an Artminds (Michael's) package of 26 stencils. I have used this stencil package several times before.
I centered the stencil on the base as best I could with the small screw sticking up on the edge.
I removed the stencil, but decided to carefully place it back on and pounce on another coat of paint.
It's always better to stencil two coats rather than apply too much paint to your brush on one coat and have it bleed under the stencil.
I like this much better.
I waxed the paper towel holder with Dixie Belle's Best Dang Wax in Clear.
Of course paper towels cover up part of the pattern, but as the towels are used more and more pattern will appear.
I think it has a fresh modern farmhouse vibe!
Pin it for later!
