Vintage Hand Mirror Makeover
February 18, 2022
My mom found this old hand mirror while thrifting several years ago.
I added the "Messy Hair Don't Care" stenciling about 3 years ago, when I retired from my day job. The stencil was from Hobby Lobby. Today, I decided I was sick of the saying, and gave the mirror a makeover.

I brushed on a couple of coats of my favorite rich black chalk paint, Dixie Belle's Caviar.
The mirror glass has lots of small imperfections, so I painted around it with a small artist's brush and did not use painter's tape.
I used a razor blade to remove any traces of paint that got onto the mirror. (Most of the black specks were in the mirror glass)
I then pulled out an inexpensive stencil pack from Folk Art called Architectural. I purchased it at either Walmart or Michaels not very long ago. It fit my mirror perfectly.
I centered the stencil and then taped it on with blue painter's tape.
I pounced on my stencil using Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk.
The hand mirror was then waxed with Dixie Belle's Best Dang Wax.
I placed the hand mirror in the corner of my coral tiled bathroom on the vanity. (My bathroom is vintage and so is my bathroom decor.)
I was a super easy makeover!
Perfect with my vintage powder tins and curling irons.
