My 2022 Front Yard Junk Garden Border Is All Planted

My 2022 planting is finally done!

As in some past years, I have diagrammed my annual and perennial junk garden with plant names. I always plant annuals in and around my perennials for all season long interest, and of course, I continue to decorate with fun old junk.  This season my blue bird house returns to the front border after several years in the back yard.

I also added more marigolds and calendulas this year, in addition to my favorite red annuals.

Our winter was long, and our spring cool (cold), so the new bedding plants are not much behind the perennials in size.

I planted Crazytunia Picassos in the laundry tub, and Benary tall Zinnias are back in the back row.

My old ladder, with one rotten rung, is back for another season.

So here is the newly planted garden on May 30th.

And here is the other side.

Last year I acquired the windmill!

After a couple weeks, the flowers will start to fill and blend with the junk.

  2. I love it, Carlene! I love junk and aspire to create a "junk garden" of my own. I have a spot in mind--not nearly as large as yours--but don't know if I can get my daughter who lives with me to agree. She's not so enamored of junk as I am! Wish me luck. Maybe if I'm sneaky and only place one piece of junk a year she won't notice until it's too late and beautiful! Thanks for sharing; you have some great pieces of junk!

    1. Oh darn! I think the junk look goes away when the flowers start filling in.
