Junk Garden Designs For The Side Of The Deck
June 27, 2022
Today I'm sharing the junk gardens along the side of my deck from this year and previous blog years.
I added mulch to this area several years ago and lined up some milk cans and chicken feeders. This year I planted Precision Red Ice Ivy Geraniums in the planters with the addition of one ivy plant in the funnel.
The plants are not very big yet in mid June when this photo was taken. Pretty cool weather so far.
Here is a previous year with coleus, pink geraniums and coleus in the planters.
Another plant that does very well along the deck is the double impatiens.
This season I planted coleus and a lobelia. Not super showy, but the coleus did fill in later in the season.
This season was one of my favorites with ivies and pink and red double impatiens. Hen and chicks in the bottom of the chicken feeder.
This season was prior to the line up of milk cans and chicken feeders. I planted red geraniums, pansies, and alyssum right in the ground.
Rusty wheels and shovels were added behind the plantings for interest.
This look was very pretty, but much more work and money for plants!
This season I grouped other junk along the deck, like a crate, washboard planter, and an old typewriter.
Perennial cranesbills are on this end of the deck side.
I liked this look too.
Mini chairs and futon ends decorate the side of the deck this year, along with coleus.
This was the first season of my blog. I repurposed futon ends as wooden planter backdrops. Plates and a cherub were hung on the futon ends.
I hope you are enjoying this look back at the old garden junk vignettes! Thanks for visiting.
