Goodwill Wooden Wagon Makeover

August 10, 2022

Photo of a country wooden decorative wagon from Goodwill.
This little wooden, country blue wagon was one of my Goodwill finds from an April post HERE.  The wagon is the kind of thing I loved in the 90's to display my craft sale bunnies, bears, and dolls.

See below, how I gave it a makeover.  Also, TODAY is the August edition of the Thrift Store Decor Team's projects.

First, I took apart the wooden wagon for easier painting, and sanded the stenciling on the side of the wagon to smooth it out.

Next, I washed the wagon with hot soapy Dawn Dish Soap water and a rag.

I then brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Caviar on the top part of the wagon, and Gravel Road Chalk Paint on the other parts.

I like the Moroccan tile stencils.  This one is Redesign With Prima's Casa Blanca Stick and Style stencil roll.

The size was almost perfect for the wagon's sides.  I centered the stencil on the first long side of the wagon and stuck it on.  The blue tape protects the stencil roll edge from being over stenciled with my brush.

I continued centering the stencil on the remaining three sides.

I couldn't just wrap the stencil around the wagon, I had to lift the stencil and re-center it on each side.

I swirled on the stencil using Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk. I also added a round paint circle on the center of the wagon wheels.

I sealed the chalk paint and stencils using Painter's Touch Clear Matte Spray.

The wagon is cute on the floor or on a table top.  Here I added a small basket with a pothos vine.

And of course, the little wagon can be used for seasonal decor as well!
