DIY Decor Changes In The Foyer

The last time I shared my foyer decor on my blog, it looked something like this.  (This has always been a difficult wall to photograph.)

The shelf was repurposed from dresser mirror salvage HERE. The plaque on top of the wall display was also a piece of furniture salvage.  Both were painted with Annie Sloan Cream Chalk Paint.  My pew was painted in off white chalk paint. A couple of vintage flower pictures, a shutter, and family pictures rounded out my wall decor.

See how this wall looks today in my new blog post below.

First, I removed the small wooden applique on the mirror shelf and repainted it with Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Burlap.  I did not distress the shelf again.  I waxed it with Dixie Belle's Best Dang Wax in Clear.

Next, I repainted the furniture salvage piece with Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Drop Cloth.

I then distressed the raised areas and edges very lightly and waxed this piece too.

This is one of two botanical framed prints I found at an antique store last week. The frames were very light, unfinished wood.  The mildew or foxing under the glass was faux. The prints were new and reprinted from vintage prints with foxing.

I took the pictures and glass out of the frames and aged them with Weathered Wood Accelerator.

I think the weathered wood adds to the vintage appeal of the botanical print with foxing.

I rehung the mirror shelf lower on the wall, and left the gray shutter back off the wall.  A few books and faux plants in a crock, weathered terracotta pots and a jar decorated the shelf. The wall basket is from Hobby Lobby.

I like the new botanical themed gallery wall.

My wall display hangs above an old pew painted with Chalked Paint in Country Gray.  The new pillow is a clearance item from Kirkland's.  The rug is a Capel Anywhere rug.

I'm very pleased with the way my foyer turned out.
