Goodwill Small Hinged Stool Makeover
March 23, 2023
I found this little wooden, unfinished, hinged stool at Goodwill on a February trip to the Twin Cities.
I love hinged boxes and this little stool was perfect for a display makeover as well.

Here is the inside of the little stool.
And these are the hinges.
I rubbed a little Rub N Buff in Gold Leaf on the hinges.
After washing up the stool a bit, I first brushed on a coat of Rustoleum Flat Black Latex Paint as a base coat.
I then added two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Drop Cloth. When I lightly distressed the stool, the black base coat was visible through the white paint on the edges.
I then pulled out a brand new French Labels Middy decor transfer from Redesign with Prima. I purchased mine on Etsy from the Serial DIYer. The Serial DIYer has an awesome blog and Etsy shop.
I chose a label for both the inside and outside of the lid, and rubbed it on.
I applied a small stencil to the front of the stool. The stencil was a Folk Art Architectural Stencil pack from Michaels or Walmart.
I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash for the stenciling. I waxed the box with Dixie Belle's Best Dang Wax in Clear.
Here is the the stool with the lid open.
And with the lid closed.
So the stool can be a display piece both closed and open.
Aren't the gold bunnies from Target adorable? Found them at the Dollar Spot.
I prefer it open.
Thanks for visiting!
