Old Coffee Pot Upcycled As A Flower Pot

March 07, 2023

Photo of an old aluminum coffeepot.
I love old coffee pots. This is an old aluminum one that I picked up thrifting. It was missing the insides.

I gave it a makeover and a new purpose below.  Also below is the March Thrift Store Decor Team's monthly blog party. Keep on scrolling for more thrifted inspiration.

First I washed the coffeepot to remove any grease or dirt on the surface.

I then taped around the knob and handle with blue painter's tape.

I applied a couple of coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Drop Cloth.

Drop Cloth is a warm linen white chalk paint.

The paint adhered to the metal well, and here is the coffeepot with two coats of paint.

I then pulled out my remaining sheet of Redesign With Prima Greenery House Mini Decor Transfers.

I used the other two transfer sheets on book project HERE, and a wooden box makeover HERE.

After cutting the transfer leaves apart, I taped them onto the coffeepot in a pleasing pattern.

I leave the transfer taped on one side, flip it over to remove the paper backing, and then lay it down in place.

I then rub the leaf down with the enclosed rectangular stick.  One leaf done.

When all the leaves were applied, I waxed the entire pot with Dixie Belle's Best Dang Wax in Clear.

Photo of small faux houseplants from Michael's.
First I pulled out a couple of faux potted Ashland houseplants from Michaels.

I stuffed the pot with plastic Target bags.

Here is the hosta plant in the coffeepot.

And here is the palm.

Next, I tried a live houseplant, a nerve plant.

For now, the Target bags are still in the bottom of the coffeepot, along with a plastic plant drip tray.

If I decide to plant in the coffeepot, I will add more soil and remove the bags.

This is the other side of the coffeepot.

I think I like the real plant best.

For now, the coffeepot will sit on the floor next to this antique rocker holding a bucket with a Bird's Nest Fern.

  1. Man, there's that transfer again that you've used before and I've admired! I LOVE how the coffee pot turned out and already added that transfer to my Amazon cart, LOL.
